Curse Mackey IMMORAL EMPORIUM Record Release Party

On Friday, November 4th at Elysium in Austin, TX, what was originally a canceled re-rescheduled Clan of Xymox show with Curse Mackey opening, turned into a party. Curse picked up the date to celebrate the release of his latest album, IMMORAL EMPORIUM, with performances by In a Darkened Room, SINE, MVTANT, and of course, Curse. As a bonus, he and Elysium gave all Clan of Xymox advance ticket holders free admission to the party.

Curse Mackey is a dark wave artist originally from San Antonio, that has made his home base here in Austin. When he’s not out on his own, Curse is the lead signer and “sample-banger” in the industrial super group Pigface, and can sometimes be found performing with My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult. Curse’s new album, IMMORAL EMPORIUM was released earlier this year on Negative Gain, with the 12″ LP recently dropping after several production delays.

In A Darkened Room opened the party with their post-punk set shrouded in darkness and smoke. SINE took to the stage next performing songs off the new release, Mantis Complete. If you’ve seen SINE before then you never really know what to expect. Sometime SINE’s Rona Rougeheart performs solo on keys and samplers, sometimes with a small electronic drum kit added on, and sometimes with guests. Tonight, Rona played keys and samples while joined by Oddmanrush on electric upright bass, which added a cool vibe to the performance. Rather than close out the night, Curse decided to go on next so he could hang out with fans after his set without them being rushed out of the club at closing time. Curse performed several tracks from his new album along with tracks from his previous release with the stage, covered in plastic sheets. One might have expected Curse’s set was going to get messy with all that plastic on stage. But the plastic sheets were a device to capture the programmed light show. That is until a manic Curse, swinging his microphone stand tore them down. His high-energy set did not leave anyone disappointed and was a hard act for industrial-darkwave act MVTANT to follow and close the show.
