THE CURSE OF KAZUO UMEZU
March 28, 2023 @ 9:30 pm - 11:30 pm
$8Outlaw horror anime from the manga legend
Adapted from the early works of manga legend Kazuo Umezu (THE DRIFTING CLASSROOM), this two-story anthology will delight fans of RINGU, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, and children being decapitated. THE CURSE OF KAZUO UMEZU leans into early tech-horror mechanics, surrealist visuals, and berserker violence to build what feels like an anime version of Nickelodeon’s ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK?—but strictly for adults. The good vibes are enhanced by the fact that this appears to be one of the few horror anime that was directed by a woman.
Note: Before the 50-minute feature, we’ll watch CALL ME TONIGHT, the most deranged body horror anime of them all.
Screening in Japanese with English subtitles.
Content Warning: This presentation contains a brief scene of non-consensual sexual advances.
